Get Enterprising Client Story: Respair Therapy

Wenta spoke with Debbie, whose company Respair Therapy provides dance-based wellbeing activities and psychotherapy, including a parent and baby daytime rave called Babe Club Silent Disco. They also provide therapeutic dance experiences for children with profound multiple learning disabilities and psychotherapy for children with EHCPs in mainstream schools.

Debbie says:

"I had worked in the corporate sector for over 20 years, but although I was successful, I wasn’t happy. I went back to university and retrained as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist. Once I qualified, I went to work at the NHS for a while, but again, working for other people just didn’t make me happy. I knew I wanted to use my skills to help the local community so I set up a Community Interest Company.

"I was clueless about how to properly run a business, particularly the finance side of things, so I joined the Get Enterprising Programme to guide me through my business’s first year.

"So far on the Get Enterprising Programme, I’ve had a one-to-one session, plus I’ve attended/watched a lot of webinars.

"I’m about to file my first company accounts, and I feel confident about it. I also did a bit of rebranding recently, and I don’t think I would have had the confidence to tackle that had I not have had support from Wenta.

"The plan is to expand Babe Club Silent Disco to different venues across North Herts. There are also plans for a therapeutic dance event for people experiencing menopause. Additionally, we have developed an after-school service for primary schools, which we are due to pilot after Easter, and a parenting education course that we will pilot in the Autumn.

"We are hoping to secure funding from the National Lottery Fund, Sport England and North Herts Council and using this money we will offer free therapy spaces via social prescribing. This means that people can go to their doctors, and be referred to one of our services.

We wish Debbie the best of luck!
