From Unemployment to Self-Employment
With unemployment levels hitting a record high in 2011, Wenta and My Incubator have launched a series of Enterprise Clubs designed to advise those considering self-employment.
The number of people out of work rose by 80,000 in the three months to July 2011, reaching 2.51m (The Guardian:2011). The Guardian also reported that the number of people working part time because they could not find a full-time job, reached a new record level. With self-employment an appealing opportunity to many, there is often a lack of guidance with the start-up process which deters people from starting. The Independent (2011) found that “a quarter of all workers believe they have a good chance of setting up a new business where they live – but the fear of failure stops them.” The monthly Enterprise Clubs are a free opportunity for local people to receive feedback on their business idea, begin work on a business plan and access advice from Wenta’s experienced business advisors.
My Incubator advisor Jeremy Green said “These local Enterprise Clubs are an excellent opportunity for anybody considering self-employment, and the informal environment allows people to ask questions and get valuable advice and guidance with their business idea. We also intend to respond to the needs of the club members and have the flexibility to arrange meetings on a range of specific topics of interest such as such as finance, tax, marketing or legal issues.” These meetings also offer aspiring entrepreneurs an opportunity to engage and network with others in the same situation.
The clubs are free to attend and are being held on a monthly basis at each My Incubator location in Luton, Potters Bar and Watford.
My Incubator is a business support facility offering hotdesking facilities, intensive ongoing support and access to in-house training opportunities. For more information please visit http://myincubator.co.uk/enterprise-clubs.
