ARC Universal is a specialist digital marketing agency based in Liverpool, with over 15 years of SEO, PPC and web design experience behind them.  Joe Scales is an entrepreneur and Managing Director of ARC Univeral based in Liverpool and has been providing digital marketing services to companies for the last 15 years, both nationally and globally. 

We interviewed Joe on the 22nd November 2017 

Could you just explain to us what it is you do?  

Hi, my name is Joe Scales and ARC Universal is a digital marketing company based in Liverpool. We help businesses and individuals generate leads through our digital marketing campaigns.  

Can you tell us about your background and what inspired you to start up your company?  

I’ve always had a passion for online marketing and the ability to reach millions of businesses with a click of a button. I started out in the music industry, through that I moved into digital design and digital marketing. It was a natural progression.  

What were the biggest challenges when setting up your business?  

The biggest challenge for any new business is finding your first client. I did this by becoming an authority in what I do! I would offer my services for free to start with, just to build my portfolio. I would then use those first successes to gain new clients.  

What sacrifices have you had to make to become an entrepreneur?  

There have been moments and times when I wondered if it has all been worth it. At the start I would have weeks with no work. But you never fail until you finally give up. I never give up and consistency pays off in the end. You just have to commit 100% to your goals. 

What type of business support – financial and mentoring - have you received?  

I am a great believer in investing time into learning from those in the know, taking online courses and keeping up with market trends. We were self-funded at the start and have tried to keep it that we owe no financial institutions. 

What makes your business unique and differentiates you from your competitors?  

Our name ARC stands for Action, Repetition, Consistency. It's a formula we created and it works. Anyone who works with us knows we are a transparent company that get results and always provide value. We strive to gain the maximum results possible for our clients.  

What would you say is your proudest business moment so far?  

Our proudest moment has to be the first time I helped one of my very first clients grow their business month on month, I realised then that online marketing used correctly and efficiently meant there is no limit to how much an individual or company can earn online.  

What are your top digital marketing tips for startup businesses?  

Just get out there and do it. Nothing happens when you are just sat there! People spend too much time thinking about what they are going to do and never actually doing it. Just do it! Use every opportunity you get to get your name out there.  

How important is a social media presence for a startups?  

Hugely important. Social media after all is all about being social and sharing information and providing value, I had one client turnover £50,000 a month just through social media twitter. It works! It's still is a resource whereby you can reach millions for free.  

What does the future hold? Any exciting plans we should keep an eye out for?  

We are constantly evolving as a business and always bringing new services to our clients, currently we are investing more time into video marketing. We see video marketing as the future of online marketing, it's cheap to promote and returns amazing results and revenue.
