Lolly Bou Creations - Our story

“Wenta were really useful and provided me with so much information: website design, social media, SEO, bookkeeping, blogging and networking to name a few. To get this information given to me for free was invaluable as money was so tight.”

Laura is a teddy bear artist that specialises in Mohair bears using traditional materials and techniques. After studying fashion and textiles in college Laura worked in sales yet felt she was moving away from what she really wanted to do:

“Having a second child put my life in perspective. I was working in sales yet wasn’t feeling professional fulfilment. Being artistic and working with my hands has made me feel alive again and I realised that creativity is in my blood. I need it; I had to find a way to make it work.”

Laura started a Facebook page for her bears and started to build a following. The comments she was getting about her product were encouraging but she wanted to take the business to the next level:

“I found Wenta at just the right time. Whilst I was on my local council website I came across a link for Wenta and enrolled myself on the ‘Ready, Set, Grow: Introduction to Self-Employment’ course. I had been growing my personal skills but wanted to know more about the business side of things. I found the session really informative and it covered a lot of topics that quickly started to allay my fears of starting up my own business.”

“I found that the content of the material was perfectly attuned to what I needed and I came away from every session feeling enlightened. My business advisor was a fantastic coach and the business support at Wenta is amazing. I really do feel as though I have grown a lot from all the support they have given me.”

“I never thought I’d say it but I’m now excited about building my own website! This is something that had been terrifying me for a long time but thanks to Wenta the process has been made so much easier. On top of that I’ve actually managed to get myself through my first self-assessment, another thing which terrified me!”

Laura believes that she has made the right move in starting her own business. “It’s great to be home more often than before and to watch my youngest child take inspiration from what I do. He’s only 4 and I often see him setting up his own craft fair with my bears. He even asked me to promote his stall on Facebook when no-one came to buy anything!”

“Overall I am glad I followed my heart and started this business. The early positive feedback and the training from Wenta helped me to truly believe in myself and in my journey. It hasn’t always been easy but, as my father taught me, sometimes a bit of risk is required. It’s definitely better than working in sales.”
