The Beacon Challenges are our flagship events. We have been running the Beacon Business Challenge in schools for many years now and it forms the basis of the range of Beacon products now available. All of our Beacon Challenges are usually one day activities held either at our conference centre in Watford or in the schools or colleges themselves. The age range for Beacon is from 11 to adult and encourages participants, working in teams, to get involved in various highly charged, competitive enterprise challenges. |
“As always, the girls found the Beacon experience very valuable and extremely enjoyable. It will, no doubt, feature in the personal statements of a large number of girls as they compile their UCAS forms.”
Mark Catley, Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls
Our Beacon Challenge Portfolio includes:
Beacon Business
This is a highly charged business start-up simulation, which allows teams of participants (aged 14+) to develop business awareness, entrepreneurial and organisational skills whilst competing against one another. Throughout this one day challenge each team develops a business idea to present in the ‘Dragons’ Den’. Team working is key, as students have to deal with the unexpected, assessing risks and exploiting opportunities.
Beacon Business Junior
A new challenge for students aged 10-14 based on the highly successful Beacon Business event. Workings in teams of six students develop a basic business idea from concept through designing a logo, selling to customers and considering financial issues.
Beacon Life
This challenge involves students in family-based scenarios which involve managing personal financial matters and understanding the long-term implications of decisions made. It helps participants become more informed and confident consumers of financial products and learn how to deal with the unexpected, assessing risks and comparing long-term and short-term benefits.
Beacon for Teachers
An event for teachers built around the Beacon Business Challenge. Teams compete against each other with business ideas and then pitch in the ‘Dragons’ Den’. ‘Pause Button’ moments are designed into the challenge so teachers can reflect on the activity and how it can be translated into the classroom. Everyone leaves with a clear definition of enterprise that will help inspire activity across the curriculum.
Beacon for Gifted and Talented Students
Each year six teams of Gifted and Talented students from six different schools are invited to come along to our conference centre in Watford and compete against each other in the ultimate Beacon Business Challenge.
